Impressed

My son, Jay, just turned five a couple months ago. Even though he is young, Jay is "the man."

I was about eight years old before I learned to ride a bike without training wheels. Two months ago, we bought Jay a bike for his birthday. Soon after we bought it, I sat on it and accidentally bent one of the training wheels. I was going to fix it, but I decided to leave it that way when I realized that it might actually help him to learn not to be dependant on them.

Lately, Andrea and I have been noticing a great degree of improvement in Jay's ability to balance on the bike. Just about an hour ago, I told him that I was going to take his training wheels off. He wasn't sure he was ready for that, but I insisted that we try it anyway. I told him he could ride in the grass in case he fell off the bike.

Once the training wheels were off, I tried walking in front of him while holding the handle bars. That seemed to slow him down so I suggested that he pedal quickly while I held the seat. We tried that and before I knew it, he was off and going. He never fell. Not even once.

I'm having one of those moments where I'm feeling extremely proud of my son.

Well, I just put Jay to bed after his eventful day. This is what he prayed as he laid in his bed...
Dear God, thank You for making me be able to ride my bike without training wheels so quickly. And please help me to keep my balance and help me not to fall. And if I do fall and get hurt, please help it not to be too bad and help it to heal quickly. And help me to take good care of my bike. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.

That is awesome. I knew he'd be doing that soon. Tell him I said good job. Maybe it was a good thing you bent his bike.
